AthenaHQ reviews
If you search for AthenaHQ reviews online, here's what you'll find:
AthenaHQ holds a 4.9/5 across 33 reviews on G2. That is close to a perfect score, and some of it is earned. what users are actually praising is their Action Center, the support team, and the Shopify attribution.
Now read the frustrated parts of those same reviews:
The credit system took some getting used to. We burned through credits faster than expected the first month because we enabled too many prompts across all engines at once.

Self-serve plans are limited. Some of the better features, like the Athena Recommendation Engine, are locked to enterprise tiers. For smaller clients who can't justify $300+/month, we've had to cobble together workarounds or leave money on the table by not offering GEO services.

The optimization suggestions miss industry context sometimes. It recommended we add customer testimonials to our equipment page, which makes sense for consumer brands but isn't how freight procurement works.

In contrast, here's what Chosenly customers say:
We closed a $120k USD client from ChatGPT. The best part was the lead said that they already trust us because ChatGPT deep research recommended us. I've only ever heard this when a lead comes from a human referral before this!

How to pick the right AI SEO tool: AthenaHQ vs Chosenly
There are a lot of factors that decide whether an AI SEO tool is worth paying for. I tested AthenaHQ hands-on and compared it to Chosenly on five of the ones that matter most. Here's how they stack up.
1. How easy is it to get started and see value?
AthenaHQ
The onboarding is genuinely one of the better ones I've tested in this series. It asks you to validate what it inferred about you: these are your competitors, these are your prompts, does this look right? That's exactly what a setup flow should do, and I'd like more tools to copy it.

- Athena has a chat based interface that shows up the moment you open the tool. You can ask it anything like "how is my brand performing this month," and it answers with real numbers. It even shows the math behind each number instead of just the percentage, which is a small thing but a good one.

- A quick caveat on this review: many features, including the insights and knowledge-base tools, were locked behind the paid tier, so I wasn't able to experience or test them directly.

- I have tested 8 AI search optimization tools till now none of them hung on my mac but Athena did. It was painfully slow for me and it made the entire experience very annoying.
Chosenly
- Chosenly’s onboarding as compared to Athena is much smoother and gives you a lot of flexibility. You enter your url and it auto suggests your ICP. You could also import your buyer personas or add them manually.

- A sampler dashboard is ready the second you sign in. The audit is ready too with insights on what you should do to improve your AI visibility and get leads from LLMs. You also get a specific plan and the recommendations are prioritized based on what will move the needle fastest in your industry.

2. Can you trust the tool’s data?
AthenaHQ
- Like other tools, AthenaHQ tracks prompts. The problem with plain prompt tracking is that buyers don't ask things the same way twice. The same person looking for a B2B SaaS marketing agency might ask it 1000 different ways depending on their role, their company size, features they’re looking for, budget, etc. Plain prompt tracking can never solve for this issue.

- There's also no filter for prompts that were never going to surface a vendor recommendation in the first place. Every prompt you track counts toward your visibility numbers, even the ones where no tool, including yours, was ever going to get mentioned. That drags your score around for reasons that have nothing to do with what you're actually doing.
Chosenly
- It tracks the seed keyword and the criteria your buyers evaluate on, which is what every phrasing of a prompt has in common. One real improvement shows up as one clear move.
- Auto-filters the prompts that would never recommend a vendor, so they never pollute the visibility score.
- Captures data specific to your brand rather than pulling from a shared pool, so nothing is padded with generic numbers.
3. What is the breadth of GEO strategies covered?
AthenaHQ
- Athena doesn’t support any other GEO strategy other than content and outreach. No Reddit, content repurposing, PR, positioning, etc.

- Content: Under Actions in the sidebar, there's one tab called Content. Under content, you can generate new content, optimize old content and snipe (basically steal ideas based on the top-performing content your competitors have published).
- Outreach: On the outreach side, it works in two steps. First it finds an author at the site you want to reach, then it drafts a message to send them. There's an activity tab that logs edits, and outreach progress is tracked Kanban style, so you can see what stage each outreach is at.

Chosenly
- Supports content creation, content updates, content repurposing, listicle outreach, Reddit, PR, and positioning, all inside one system.

4. How much of the work does the tool actually do for you?
AthenaHQ
Content creation: To create content, you select the prompt you want to create content on. Then It asks you for the format you would like your content in (for example, a blog post, listicle, comparison page, etc.). The next screen auto suggests some titles, and once you to confirm the title. It auto-suggests 3-4 titles, and you can also add your own, it generates a brief for you. You can edit the brief and then create content.

Content optimization: In the content optimization, it recommends the top blogs that it thinks need optimization. You can select any one of those and then review the title that it suggests and click on the optimization focus. You can choose target prompts and optimize for those specific prompts.
I selected a landing page to optimize and chose two target prompts but the optimized version it gave me back was a near-verbatim copy of the original. It had same headings, same body, same testimonials, same FAQ. Not even optimized for the target prompts i selected.

Content sniping: Athena looks at your competitor's best content and generates something similar. The first blog it gave me back was genuinely good. I was sold for about five minutes. Then I read it next to the article it was based on. Wording-wise, it's different enough that I doubt you'd get flagged for plagiarism. But structurally it was very similar to the original one. But this comes down to personal preference. I'd rather use existing content as inspiration and create something distinct from it, so this feature isn't for me. That said, I'm sure plenty of users would really enjoy it.

Outreach:
Under Outreach, you can click a button and it tries to find the author, then you can draft a message to send them. But Athena is very slow here. It takes too long to find an author. Plus the hit rate is also poor. Out of 10 sites I tried, I only got 2 authors back.
Even when it does find someone, a message it drafted is super weird. It talked about a partnership or a collaboration call. The person receiving this message is usually an SEO person or a marketing person, not someone who can say yes to a partnership. All you actually wanted was a mention or a spot on their page, not a business discussion.
Another weird case trying to reach out to our partner agency’s own LinkedIn page. It didn't seem to know who I was outreaching on behalf of versus who I was outreaching to.

Chosenly
- For content, Chosenly drafts a solid V1 of the article built from the pages that are actually getting cited for that topic, plus your brand guidelines and existing context. Every sentence comes with its source shown, line by line, so you can check exactly where each claim came from before you publish it. When a page needs a refresh, that runs in one click too.

- With Chosenly, you can see which listicles and citation sources you can get into, prioritizes them by traffic and answer-influence, finds the right contact at each one, and drafts the outreach message. Or you can opt for Chosenly to run the outreach end-to-end on your behalf.

- For Reddit, it drafts the comment itself, using your company information, written to match the thread and stay in your brand's voice. It doesn't read as generic, and it doesn't get flagged or banned.

- PR and positioning aren’t as automated as the rest of the stack yet but you get usable insights.

5. Does the tool provides human support?
Athenahq
Reviews online mention responsive customer support, quick bug fixes, that kind of thing. I can't confirm this myself since I never actually contacted their support.
What I can tell you is what I saw directly. Onboarding was self-serve, no human walked me through it or explained how things work. For support, there's an email listed. I'd hope it's quick, but again, I didn't test it, so I can't say either way.
Chosenly
In contrast, you get support on Slack. There's also a dedicated GEO expert who gets on a call with you during onboarding and fortnightly. They go through your data, and work out an actual plan with you.
AthenaHQ pricing

AthenaHQ has three tiers. Free, Starter, and Enterprise.
Starter is $295/month, 9 models, API access, integrations, and it's where the content optimization agent and outreach tooling actually live.
Enterprise is custom pricing, no number listed anywhere on their site, and it's where Knowledge Base, Oracle discrepancy detection, and ACE - the citation engine, all sit.
However, AthenaHQ's pricing is credit-based, not flat. A lot of independent AthenaHQ AI reviews say that monitoring cadence and use of the AI chat feature draw from this same credit pool, and flag this as making real monthly spend harder to predict than the listed price suggests. I
Chosenly has one flat plan, $400/month. That covers 600 prompts, 100 outreach contacts, 20 content drafts, unlimited Reddit threads, unlimited seats, Slack support, and a dedicated GEO expert. Nothing extra sits behind a hidden tier.
Verdict: So, should you pick AthenaHQ?
AthenaHQ covers the basics of AI visibility tracking, but the parts meant to save you time, content generation, sniping, optimization, and outreach, don't hold up once you actually use them. Two of its more interesting features, ACE and Oracle, are Enterprise-only with no listed price. Pricing itself is credit-based, so real spend depends on usage, not just the tier you pick.
Chosenly is one flat price, covering content, outreach, Positioning, Reddit, and PR, at that same price, with a dedicated GEO expert on Slack.
If you're running e-commerce or B2C and want Shopify and GA4 tied to your AI visibility, AthenaHQ has that built in.
If you're B2B and need the execution work actually done for you, Chosenly is the better fit.
